I'm Martin Bryant from Manchester, UK. This blog is about me.

magneticNorth's Bomberman

I was at the offices of Manchester web design company magneticNorth this morning and they have one of the best waiting areas of any office I've ever been to. In amongst the knicknacks on display was this brilliant Bomberman ornament thing.

Work off that Mocha on the Starbucks treadmill

Yesterday I nipped into Starbucks for a coffee. Half way through my cup, the staff moved me from my seat and manhandled something new into the shop - a treadmill.

I'm not sure if every Starbucks is getting one but the Manchester Albert Square branch, as of yesterday, has. Weird.

Why my favourite band put a huge smile on my face

On Tuesday night I went to see "My favourite band in the whole wide world ever and ever (pretty much)", The Fiery Furnaces. Not only were they absolutely amazing but right at the end I got a great thing for any fan to treasure - a setlist.

Whather it was my 'Cabaret of the Seven Devils' t-shirt that did it, or just my mouthing along to virtually all the lyrics, vocalist Eleanor Friedberger handed the list to me as the bands left the stage.

The other setlist went to a girl I recognised from their last Manchester gig two years ago. On that occasion the band actually applauded her for her intimate knowledge of the lyrics for Automatic Husband.

After a quick superfan high-five at the end we agreed that the drums on the album Widow City are close to the best thing in existence.

First day, tidy desk

I wonder how long my new desk will stay immaculate?

Goodbye Whalley Range

On Friday I said goodbye to a place I'd been working at for over seven years. Seven years of radio, TV, video production and online stuff at Whalley Range High School has been fun but it's time to move on.

My last day was a weird experience after all that time but a particular highlight was my final radio show during which some of the regular radio girls presented me with a handmade card filled with messages.  Awww...

After that there was just time to do some final tasks...

Then it was off the pub with a mannequin... an explanation of that in my next post!

The Beatles don't get on with Apple but some Beetles like my MacBook

Yes, in the past week three Varied Carpet Beetles have crawled out of the vent at the back of my MacBook. Apparently nests can contain up to 100. Assuming there's a nest in there that's 97 to go!

I'm looking forward to booking it into the Genius Bar and telling them it's bug-ridden!

Welcome to MartinBryant.net

I haven't had a proper personal blog where I write about things that I'm doing in ages. So, that's what I'll be doing here, sporadically. My other Posterous site, http://martinsfp.posterous.com, will still be posting the weird bits and pieces that amuse me as I make my way through the world but this site is for bite-size thoughts, photos and news from my life.

I used to have a lifestream-style site at martinbryant.net, but it was a pain to maintain - Posterous is much easier.

Over on the right you can see where you'll find me in various locations around the web. I do tend to be just about everywhere.

Finally for now, here's a photo of the cat that mysteriously turned up on our doorstep last week. It was surprisingly sunny for for mid-September and the doorstep was the only bit of shade it could find. It wasn't happy in the slightest when I moved it. Poor thing with its weird glassy left eye and grumpy miaow.
